If you are thinking of becoming a professional freelance translator, you need at least a degree in languages, with preferably a post-graduate qualification, specifically in translation. Experience in industry and commerce is also desirable, and to obtain the most work you need to offer a selection of specialised subject areas.
We would only ever ask a translator to translate into his/her mother tongue. Freelance translators would need the following equipment:
- word-processor
- printer
- telephone
- fax
- answering machine
- modem or e-mail
- access to dictionaries and a reference library.
Hand-written or typed translations would not usually be acceptable.
Translation Junction welcomes applications from freelance translators with at least 5 years experience of translating specialist subjects, and preferably with a membership of a recognised professional institute. We cannot guarantee that we will use your services, or that there will be a steady flow of work, as this is always unpredictable. Applications from new freelance translators are also welcomed, but unless you have an unusual combination of languages and specialist subjects we are unlikely to offer work to untried freelancers. We may ask for references and a test. If you would like to register with us, please email your resume to info@translationjunction.com.
If we admit you to our online freelance translators portal, you will receive a username and password to get access to our system.
